Polaroid
My Polaroid is one of my prized cameras:
I love my Polaroid because of it’s ability to instantly reproduce a moment in the physical space. Translating that moment into something tangible and material is what pushed me to deconstruct this tiny machine.

People & Polaroids:
When I have my camera I’ll stop and and ask people if they would like to have their picture taken, and let them know I will never have a copy of it. The physical copy they get is the only one in existence, a captured moment in time just for them. I have taken photos of couples, families, and friends. I’ll never see those photos, but knowing that they’re out there and that they are cherished is awesome.
The Process:
In a CAD-like layout, I set out to deconstruct a polaroid and show its internal machinery. I started by sketching my personal camera and taking in it’s shape, design, and feeling.
Starting from a fascination with how cameras work, I wanted to see what it would be like to deconstruct an instant camera with its self-printing capabilities.
I then refined my sketches into more technical drawings that I could use as a blueprint to build a digital 2D model from.
Using these technical drafts I created of the Polaroid, I took those into Illustrator and created the illustrations you’ll see in the gallery below.
